This is an excerpt taken from the November/December 1995 issue of Horizons, and was written by Catherine G. Borchert. I came across it in some materials used during Placement Event back in 1996.

What is our Call?

God calls us—calls us to faith and to prayer, to witness and to serve. For there is an inseparable connection between faith and practice, truth and duty. God calls us as a community that our life in Christ will be shown by what we do, as by what we are. God calls us to no less than a changed life seen in every action and gesture, shown by how we greet each other, shown by how we work together, shown by what we give away, shown by the way we care for everything, every being, every stone and tree in God’s Creation. For all we do in the Church is a sign of God’s reign that offers hope in life-denying situations. God calls us and we respond.

Listen to this taize song—“Ubi Caritas” as a way of centering yourself this Monday. The words, translated from Latin, mean “where charity and love are, God is there.”
